How the CarDependability Index works
Complaints, in context
Federal (NHTSA) owner complaints, measured against how common each vehicle is, so a best-seller isn’t punished for its volume.
First three years
The graded figure counts a model-year’s first three years, so every year is measured over the same window.
Recalls kept separate
Recalls are shown on every page but never folded into the grade. A recall is a fix, not a reliability verdict.
0–100 and a letter
Each model-year gets a plain letter grade and a 0–100 score. Some figures are estimated, and we say where.
Early vs. Long-Term
The grade uses the Early CDi (first three years). A separate Long-Term CDi reflects every complaint on record.
